Hormones and Metabolism

We all have a number of different hormones in our body. For women, the hormone estrogen dominates our system for reproductive purposes. As we face our puberty and pregnancy years, estrogen totally dominates causing our blood sugar to drop. Since estrogen also encourages fat storage (for reproduction protection) women tend to gain weight during their pregnancy and puberty years (breasts, thighs and hips). With estrogen already encouraging fat storage and with our blood sugar lowered it is no wonder us ladies are craving sugar and are gaining weight because of it! The good news is that after having a period the hormone progesterone “peaks” causing an increase in body temperature and metabolism. This gives women an extra 200-300 calories to burn a day! There goes all that chocolate consumed during your period week!
